Ravenna Stra/ordinaria

Ravenna Stra/ordinaria

The journey of the Consuls of Emilia-Romagna for the Touring Club Italiano continues, in collaboration with CulturAmbiente, to discover and enhance the lesser-known cultural, historical, and social heritage of great touristic interest in our Region. It is an ambitious project named “Emilia-Romagna of Treasures.” With “Aemilia: A Road 2200 Years Long,” a first six-stage itinerary was proposed along the road that, historically, created our Region and remains its backbone and an identity mark. Now this journey continues with “Extra/ordinary Ravenna.“
Five itineraries are proposed, each doable in a day but even more enjoyable when accompanied by a stay of several days. There is the city of Ravenna, naturally, where mention is certainly made of the eight extraordinary “UNESCO World Heritage” landmarks, but above all, the discovery of perhaps lesser-known treasures fundamental to understanding and enjoying the soul of a city extraordinary for its beauty and the uniqueness of a history unparalleled worldwide. Then there is the entire provincial territory, one of the most extraordinary in Italy, shaped by the sea, marshes, rivers, gypsum hills, and the work of its inhabitants who transformed it, made it livable, and often even prosperous, without betraying its very long history. The landscape is dotted with cultural and landscape excellences, almost unbelievable, like the fossil remains of beasts and other animals such as antelopes, crocodiles, or rhinoceroses.
Once again, the Emilia-Romagna Region has provided its support, just as the valuable collaboration with the regional secretariat of the Ministry of Culture continues.

Within this publication, I conceived and wrote the itinerary for Ravenna city center. A route that, starting from the City Dock (Darsena di città), a place suspended between the urban center and the sea, history and innovation, winds through the streets of the historic center, touching upon the most famous monuments, but above all, more hidden corners that reveal the extra/ordinary Ravenna to the visitor.
